500g Sirloin steak
1 Broccoli crown
1.5cm fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed or chopped
2 Sachets Blue Dragon chow mein sauce
For the marinade:
1 tbsp Sesame oil
1 tbsp Dark soy sauce
1 tsp Brown sugar
1 tsp Cornflour
1/4 tsp Baking soda - don't leave this out!
Mix the marinade ingredients in a suitably sized bowl
Thinly slice the steak into 0.5cm thick strips no more than 5cm long
Put the beef strips in a bowl, mix well until the beef is well coated and leave to marinade for 30 minutes
Heat some vegetable oil in a pan over a medium high heat
Add the beef to the pan and stir fry for about 4 minutes until the beef is browned and looks about 98% cooked
Take the beef out of the pan and put to one side
Add the ginger, garlic and broccoli to the pan along with 2 tbsp of cold water and cook until the broccoli is bright green and slightly tender
Pour the chow mein sauce sachets into the pan and let the sauce heat through for a minute or so
Add the cooked beef back to the pan and mix everything together. Cook for a further 2 minutes and serve with noodles
Tip: For a bit of added colour, peel a medium carrot and cut it into batons and add to the pan at the same time as the broccoli
